It’s been a while since I wrote but all is good. We took our retirement road trip, cutting it short by a day, but had a good time. My foot was hurting all week so we were unable to walk around sites, museums, etc., for more than a couple of hours, but it was enough.
One of our favorite spots was our rim cabin at Palo Duro Canyon in Texas. It was incredibly historic, quaint, and simple. Made of stone and built by the CCC, it has stood and will continue to stand the test of time. Views were gorgeous. Laid on the roof at night and gazed at the freakin’ Milky Way! An amazing memory.
Ate at a few really good spots along the way and a clunker or two. One of the best steaks ever at Cattlemen’s in OKC. Service was incredible. The Philbrook in Tulsa was beautiful (found my requisite Mary Cassatt) but again the foot kept me from exploring as much of the grounds as I would have liked. Well, that and the triple-digit heat. What fools head south in late August and early September? What can I say, we’re new to the travel game.
When we got home, we found that daughter and recuperating son had a great time together so our hearts were happy over that. Recuperating son was able to move back to his place nearly two weeks ago, and began driving again about 10 days ago. He returned to work last week. Still using a cane but so, so much better!
Weather has finally cooled, rain returned, leading me to make bierocks for supper. Neither the A/C or furnace are needed right now so heating up the oven is not a big deal. The batch looks delicious, and I’ll have one soon. Hubs went to son’s house to watch football and I get to be alone for a bit. Yay! I do miss a little alone time, but we’re still figuring out his retirement since recuperating son went home.
I think I’ll go binge watch something until dinner time. A very lazy way to enjoy alone time, don’t you think?
