And in the good plan gone wrong category.....

Saturday, because we had it on our to do list, we decided to tackle the bathroom faucet with very little water pressure.  It seemed like a good day to do it, although in the back of our minds we were thinking about the fact that we were hosting dominoes at 6:30 and we crossed our fingers that we could get it done and get the rest of our hosting duties accomplished beforehand.  And of course, because nothing goes as planned, especially plumbing, it didn't quite work out that way.

We began in the morning.  We called my mom fairly early and asked her if she wanted to go with us to a quick lunch  She did.  In the meantime, I was working in the upstairs office while R was taking the supply lines to the faucet off in order to check  for calcium deposits that form at the openings.  He found some fairly clogged lines, and cleaned them out.  The faucet then ran better, but still not well.

He decided to take off the faucet  and when he took it off, he found he needed to replace washers and supply lines.  He made a trip to the hardware store and got replacement parts.  Our neighbor had rented a machine that slices through the ground and offered to let us use it.  Unfortunately R had a sink apart and needed to pick up dog doo before the machine could slice the yard, and it was time to pick up my mom for lunch.  We shuffled plans and I had lunch with her while he stuck to the task(s) at hand.

When I got home from lunch, the yard was sliced (courtesy of our neighbor who did it for us after the poop was scooped) but the sink was devolving into a mess.  The parts he got were installed, but the dumb thing leaked all over after it was reassembled and the old, corroded shut off valves were not working.  Curse this 80-year old house and it's aged infrastructure!

We reviewed, assembled and re-assembled and still no luck.  The afternoon was getting away from us, I had cooking and cleaning to do, and the air was blue with swear words.  We called the time-of-death on that dumb project around 3:00 and got busy doing what we needed to do to get ready.  Then we told our guests they could use the toilet but had to wash up in the kitchen.  Or the bathtub.  And liquor made it seem like fun.

Sunday we hit the hardware store early, bought more parts, and ended up replacing the faucet, supply lines, and shut off valves.  We didn't finish until mid-afternoon, which means we had to cram the rest of our weekend chores into the few remaining hours of daylight.  Our beautifully sliced yard didn't get seeded, laundry didn't get done, and R's bookwork was left for another day.

But I smile every time I turn on my new faucet and the water comes out in reasonable volume.  Of course now I'm noticing the toilet is slow...
